Dear AFL (American Film Industry) Board 

Spike lee is clearly the one and only option for the AFL Life Achievement Award. He has changed cinematography and film in an amazing way and it is frankly a surprise that he has not already received the award and I am going to tell you a few of the many reasons he deserves it. 

Firstly, Spike Lee was one of the first directors to show black culture and celebrate it. He has had such a smassive impact in the highlighting all of the racial issues and injustices like the Ku Klux Klan in his movie BlacKkKlansman. Another movie that alone shows us that he deserves this award is Malcom X which has inspired hundreds of thousands of people around the world of all cultures. And he also challenges stereotypes like in the movie Shes Gotta Have it. 

 

Secondly, Spike Lee has revolutionized the field of directing and film making due to his unique style in everything he does like music and colour. Most notably Spike Lee is known to experiment with new camera angles that will often make their way into other films. He also has jumpstarted many actors’ careers and will often use the same actors in multiple films which is something that no other Directors were doing at that time. One example is his frequent casting of Denzel Washington 

 

Furthermore, Spike lee has been going strong for ages. Since his breakout film which is Shes Gotta Have it he has been consistently releasing outstanding Films many of which have become house hold names. Spike Lee has also been staying relevant with films like Da Five Bloods and his other new releases. 

Finally, Spike Lee does not only direct movies, he has also composed biographies, music videos, ads, TV shows and a book. He has worked with the two biggest Michaels in history proving that he is a great director. Spike directed two Michael Jackson music videos and many of Michael Jordan’s shoe ads in which Spike also acted. These ads boosted the sales shoes massively, influencing hip hop street culture making them the most popular shoes in history. 

  

So it clear that Spike Lee has and continues to change the world through his innovative films. He has demonstrated a wide range of skills. He is acknowledged by critics, the public and his colleagues as a worthy recipient of AFL Lifetime Award.
